Good Copy Bad Copy – Copyright Laws and Culture Clash
Good copy, Bad Copy is a well balanced, one hour documentary, about sampling culture, copyright laws in America and around the world. The documentary takes place with various advocates and those that are against (Bridgeport, MPAA) sharing intellectual property, freely. The advocates in US are Girl Talk, Danger Mouse, Dr. Lawrence Ferrara, Olivier Chastan and many others. World representation by Russia, Sweden’s Pirate Bay members, Nigeria’s film industry and Brazil’s Techno-Braga Scene. Music by N.W.A, RDJ2, De La Soul and the list goes on. The discussion spans topics of how do artist get compensated for their work. Where do we stop limiting artist by exploring other artists work, for the purpose of pushing the music and taking in a never seen direction. Where does piracy starts and where does creativity begin to be embraced. “The current laws are inhibiting the flow of culture and music. The consumers perception of the value of music has declined” Is the behavior caused because of easy free access to the music? How can the music industry survive with old rules in place? The need for new system is in order but who will be the one to implement it? The big corporations are afraid of the power that people hold. “Freedom drives a more vibrant economy than restriction and control. We got to think about it in a radical way, so it all makes sense. Creativity itself is here on the line.”
The makers of the film – Andreas Johnse, Ralf Christinsen and Henrik Moltke are in line of essence of sharing their work, freely. Giving the chance to view it online or download it. Donations are also welcome: http://www.goodcopybadcopy.net/
