Potentiality of Storming Sky – Greece On Fire
Film shot by the participants which has already lasted 3 months, but killed by the media after several days of social revolt in Greece. Underlying causes of the explosion are historical and misery of daily life in late capitalism: the privatization of social assets, brutal welfare cuts, reform of a government, fanatically carrying out neoliberal dogma: capital is everything, man nothing. The persecution of immigrants, the brutality of the police who controls and maintains the unfair system, and finally the murder of a teenager by a police officer on 6 of December 2008, triggered a wave of anger. According to corporate media, it was the only reason why “bored” young people went to the streets. But the social revolution matured in Greece for a long time and contrary to media-government propaganda is not its irresponsible whim, nor a safe episode. You can not reduce it to the youth protests against consumer driven lifestyle, because it is under the same economic revolt as its workers. The documentary maintains combat poetics, demonstrating the maturity and the explosion of rebellion, which in its blind and joyful expression, finally finds a positive form: project to fight for better world. “Why do we burn? Why do we destroy? Because we are commodities… And we don’t like it at all.”
