A series of explorations, episodes and comments on creativity by Saul Bass, a master of conceptual design, this film is one of the most highly regarded short films ever produced. Humor, satire and irony are combined with serious questions about the creative process and how it comes into play for different individuals. A fascinating cornucopia of trenchant ideas and important truths, it is stimulating and enjoyable for a very broad spectrum of ages and interests. Organized into eight major sections, the Edifice, Fooling Around, the Process, Judgment, a Parable, Digression, the Search, and the Mark, Why Man Creates is appropriate wherever creative problem-solving is the goal.

Where do we draw the line between Man and Machine? Technocalyps is an intriguing three-part documentary on the notion of transhumanism by Belgian visual artist and filmmaker Frank Theys. The latest findings in genetics, robotics, artificial intelligence, bionics and nanotechnology appear in the media every day, but with no analysis of their common aim: that of exceeding human limitations. The director conducts his enquiry into the scientific, ethical and metaphysical dimensions of technological development. The film includes interviews by top experts and thinkers on the subject worldwide, including Marvin Minsky, Terence McKenna, Hans Moravec, Bruce Sterling, Robert Anton Wilson, Richard Seed, Margareth Wertheim, Kirkpatrick Sale, Ralph C. Merkle, Mark Pesce, Ray Kurzweil, Rabbi Youssouf Kazen, Rael and many others.

LOUIS KAHN, WHO IN 1974 DIED BANKRUPT AND ALONE in New York City’s Pennsylvania Station, is considered by many architectural historians to be the most important architect of the second half of the 20th century. He left behind a brilliant legacy of intensely powerful and spiritual buildings – geometric compositions of brick, concrete and light, that in the words of the L.A. Times “change your life.” Kahn’s dramatic death laid bare a complex personal life of secrets and broken promises.

“Inside Outside” is a film about the energy artists get when working in the street. An energy they’re missing when exhibiting in galleries and museums, an energy that brings life to their art and to …

With just one spot of red paint between the eyes the Parisian artist ZEVS, executes the advertising industry’s images of perfect humans. ‘People don’t think about the force of advertising,’ says Zevs and continues, ‘But with just one psst I remove the force. No one wants to be identified with a dead person so advertising looses its effect’. ZEVS calls his action ‘Visual Attack’, and he has executed billboards worth millions around Paris. At the same time, ZEVS is a respected artist who exhibits all around the world. “Inside Outside” follows ZEVS and other so-called street artists from New York, Stockholm, Copenhagen and Sao Paulo. They all make a living off their art, but they also have an urge to exhibit their work illegally in the streets.

Jacque Fresco is considered by many to be a modern-day Da Vinci. Peer to Einstein and Buckminster Fuller, Jacque is a self-taught futurist who describes himself most often as a “generalist” or multi-disciplinarian — a student of many inter-related fields. He is a prolific inventor, having spent his entire life (he is now 90 years old) conceiving of and devising inventions on various scales which entail the use of innovative technology. As a futurist, Jacque is not only a conceptualist and a theoretician, he is also an engineer and a designer.

His organization, The Venus Project (named after the town he lives in, Venus, Florida), works to provide a global vision of hope for the future of humankind in our technological age. The Venus Project reflects the culmination of Jacque’s life work: the integration of the best of science and technology into a comprehensive plan for a new society based on human and environmental concern.
